RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish provides a formal religious education program for young people,
Grades 2 through 9, to assist parents in carrying out their roles as primary religious educators of their children.
Children, especially in the elementary grades, are often given "homework" which parents are expected to review
with the child. In the upper grades, parents should encourage their children to share the lessons learned in
class and complete any assignments.
Regular Mass attendance on weekends is expected for all children enrolled in the Religious Education program.
During the school year, the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass is the "Children's Mass" featuring the youth Choir and
homilies at an appropriate level for young people.
Regular class attendance is also expected. Classes are scheduled during the school year. An annual calendar
is posted on this web site and regular reminders of classes, special meetings and vacations are placed in the
weekly parish bulletin. All classes are held at the Parish Center on Central Avenue.
Grade 2 Sunday 9:00 AM
Grades 3 & 4 Tuesday 4-5:00 PM
Grade 5 Wednesday 4-5:00 PM
Grade 6 Wednesday 6-7:05 PM
Grades 7 & 8 Tuesday 6-7:05 PM
Grade 8 As Scheduled
Classes scheduled on school days will be cancelled if Attleboro or Seekonk cancel schools due to bad weather.
Preparation for First Eucharist - All second grade students receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time
in the Spring. Attendance at Religious Education throughout the second grade is required so that children may be adequately prepared.
The Sacrament of Confirmation for most young people takes place during the year in which they are 9th grade students.
In preparation, they are expected to fully participate in Grade 8 Religious Education as well as the special meetings, retreats and projects scheduled during the year of Confirmation. Attendance at Sunday Mass is a program requirement
and all Confirmation candidates are expected to "check in" at the Sacristy when attending Mass on Saturday evening
or Sunday morning.
Non-Catholic adults or Catholics who have not fully participated in the life of the Church through reception of the Sacraments are invited to explore the possibility of reception into the Church or full communion with the Church. Please let your interest be known to Fr. Rita who will arrange appropriate religious instruction.
